How To Guide:
RC Helicopter Take Off
If you have mastered the workings of your RC car it would mean that it will no longer hold much appeal unless you join
professional competitions. It is therefore time to move on to a new dimension, to a higher level of excitement and
entertainment provided by RC toys. You can aim to fly RC helicopters.
Among all the other radio controlled toy vehicles, the RC helicopter is known to be the hardest to operate. However, this
should not deter you from learning to fly one. If you are not faint hearted, this will even be a challenge.
Other people would say that flying an RC helicopter is so hard it is comparable to standing on one foot while balancing a
stick on the palm of your hand on a windy day. It is a fact that RC helicopters are hard to fly but with perseverance and
a lot of practice it is not impossible to learn to fly one.
An electric RC helicopter is recommended for beginners. You need to thoroughly read the instruction manual before you try
to fly your copter. It would be advisable to ask someone who has some knowledge about RC helicopters. They will offer
invaluable tips and suggestions.
On your very first flight, check the unit carefully. Once you are ready to start the helicopter, place it on a level, open
area. The engine may not start at once, if this happens try to add about 1/8th stick throttle. This should start the
engine. Be alert though, at the slightest sign of trouble you have to cut off the engine. Never diagnose a problem while
the engine is in full power. Accidents happen this way.
Once the engine is running slowly the helicopter will take off and hover for a while. If the helicopter waggles once it
has taken off, it means that the gyro sensitivity is way too high. And if the unit spins after take off, it could be
because the gyro is inverted. Cut off the power immediately and recheck the unit.
Generally, it would take several days before you get to master the take off and the hovering, another week to do the dips
and the loops. You may be the competitive type and learn the ropes in the shortest time possible but always remember to
have fun and to enjoy the experience.
