How To Guide:

RC Helicopter Flying

Most enthusiasts consider a radio controlled helicopter to be the most difficult and challenging RC vehicle. An RC helicopter’s radio controls is quite similar to the controls of a real helicopter. And as such novice users should take time to master the techniques of flying this grown man’s toy.

First and foremost is for you to have a basic understanding of the parts as well as the mechanism that power and drives your RC helicopter. By carefully reading the instruction manual that comes with the RC helicopter, you will learn useful tips on how to fly your toy.

An RC helicopter’s controls could be pretty complex as most controls are patterned after real helicopters. It is therefore necessary to familiarize yourself with the functions or purposes of the different controls before you make an attempt to fly.

Check the helicopter thoroughly and make sure that all the parts are secure and properly screwed. Any loose screw could mean damage to the helicopter as parts may fly off once the helicopter is airborne. It would be better if you can have your unit checked by an expert as he will be able to easily see and detect assembly defects that can damage the unit.

Now you are ready to fly your RC helicopter. Put the unit on the ground with the nose directed away from you. Use the control panel to rotate the blades fast enough for the helicopter to lift off the ground. Next, use the throttle to give the helicopter the extra power to become airborne. Ease the throttle once the unit is about a foot off the ground but you should be able to keep the helicopter in the air and hovering at roughly the same spot.

Hovering is the most basic skill you have to master before you move on to the other techniques. Hovering could be a bit difficult especially for beginners and you might need several attempts to master it, but do not become daunted by the task. In no time you will have the ability to hover and you can move on to the more advanced turns and dips.

Flying an RC helicopter is undoubtedly a thrilling experience. Imagine the adrenalin rush you will feel every time you watch the helicopter about to crash and successfully make it airborne once again with a few deft flicks on the control panel. Flying the real thing can be simulated and with less risk too as your feet are firmly planted on the ground.
