First Flight With Your RC Helicopter

Author: Carolyn Clayton

There are many RC Helicopters crafted for different users, each type of RC Helicopter has certain specifications and advancement which enables them to perform special functions. Now, before you go further you should be able to understand that which RC Helicopter is suitable to you, as wrong things in wrong hands can be dangerous. It should be noted that an RC Helicopter could be a dangerous toy and it is essential that you remain cautious all the time while your helicopter is air borne.

Before you start off, make sure your helicopter is assembled correctly and according to the guidelines in the manual. Setting up a helicopter is not quick or very easy job and a lot of kids really do make mistakes which could lead to unwanted crashes and accidents. A correctly assembled helicopter is more likely to fly with more stability and can be predictable. If it is possible for you, then always try to get some experienced person to help you with setting up your RC helicopter. For the first flight, have some adult along with you who can guide you when necessary and help you in confusion. This will always ensure your first flight is smooth and you make most out of your new toy.

Don't rush into flying quickly, start with simple steps. Do not power on your helicopter unless you have a fully charged remote in your hand as powering up your helicopter could make the blade spin and might be injurious. Always power on your remote first and then your RC Helicopter, and make sure the throttle is 'off'. While starting with your first flight, make sure your helicopter is indoor types or outdoor types. If it is indoor type or mini-helicopter then avoid flying it in a crowded room, or near a baby. If it's an outdoor type then please do not attempt to fly it inside your house as such helicopters are powerful in nature and are more likely to cause damage inside your house. When outside, maintain sufficient distance between you and your helicopter. Make sure you don't accelerate the throttle to 100% as it would result in sudden and unpredictable lift. Be very patient and slowly accelerate till the Helicopter is in midair. It is also necessary that you practice hovering first and learn basic contro

ls before you perform critical moves in the public, always be careful about the battery level. Normally an electric charged R.C Helicopter would perform best for 6-11 minutes when fully charged, depending on the use. Whenever you feel like the performance has reduced then slowly descend it and bring it to ground to avoid fall.

Always remember

• Get some head gear while you are practicing RC Helicopter flying.

• Do not fly indoors if your Helicopter is large or is very powerful.

• Have someone experienced around at your first flight for your safety.

• Be very cautious when your helicopter is airborne.

• Go step by step - don't rush. Check for battery - don't over accelerate - learn to hover.

• When your helicopter is about to crash - immediately cut the throttle.

• Do not descend the helicopter fast as it will end up slamming the ground.

• Always maintain safe distance between you and helicopter

Happy flying.
